In the later part of the 1980's
the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet bloc began to
move away from their allies and rulers in the Supreme Soviet. One by
one each country saw a revolution against the communist regimes. Who
can forget the fall of the Berlin wall?
Romania
was no different, and in 1989 the people revolted and executed their
dictator of a leader, Nicolae Ceausescu, on Christmas day. This
event was broadcast around the world on television. These scenes
appalled many, yet this was nothing compared to what we were about
to see over the following months and years.
Like many, officers and staff of the Lancashire
Constabulary felt there must be something we could do to ease the
suffering of so many. |

In 1990 the
first of many aid convoys left for Romania not knowing what to
expect. The suffering was far greater than any of us could have
anticipated. Police officers who regularly deal with horrific
incidents, were brought unashamedly to tears.
Over the years the charity has evolved beyond the
Police service, so much so that in 2001 we were granted registered
charity status. Although we still have our roots with the Lancashire
Constabulary many people from outside the service are now involved,
all with one main objective:
?To aid and assist the
children, and people of Romania, from suffering and poverty.'
